James Brownlee and Catherine Walker
at Shotts, Scotland

James Brownlee was married on 9 May 1830 at Shotts to Catherine Walker[1].

They had issue:

1. James Brownlee born 17 April 1831 at Shotts[2].

2. Robert Brownlee born 17 March 1833 at Shotts[3]. Robert was married on 20 August 1869 at Shotts Kirk to Christina Mitchell. They farmed at Stanebent Farm where they raised a family of eight children. Robert was serving on jury duty in the nearby town of Wishaw and was running late to catch the train. While running for the train, he overheated himself and caught pneumonia and died on 29 November 1880.

They had issue:

1. James Brownlee gardener was married in 1897 at Grathom-on-Spey to Mary Allen McKechnie born 26 May 1871 at Hirst Farm. After they were married they went to Aberdeen where James was the manager of Drumduan Farm. They went to Canada in July 1907.

They had issue:

1. Robert Brownlee married Gladys

2. Katie Brownlee

3. Christina (Chrissie) Mitchell Brownlee born 15 January 1904 – named after her paternal grandmother.

Robert Brownlee and Christina Mitchell also had:

2. Catherine Brownlee married James McKechnie. In October 1931, James shot and killed Catherine in a tragedy resulting from financial hardships. The following week after coming to terms with what he had done, he took his own life.

They had issue:

1. Christina McKechnie born c1900

Robert and Christina Mitchell also had:

3. David Mitchell Brownlee born 1872 donated the organ at the old Shotts Kirk. He went to Canada arriving in Manitoba in July 1904. David was killed in an accident on 28 January 1911 in Winnipeg while delivering milk on a horse and sleigh

5. Gavin Brownlee went to Canada in November 1904.

8. Robert Brownlee born c 1872 at Stanebent Farm died 1957. He married Janet McKechnie one of nine children from the McKechnie family who owned Hirst Farm in Shotts. She died 1933.

They had issue:

1. Robert Brownlee visited Winnipeg in the late 60s while in Canada for an Ayrshire Show. Farmed at Cairney Head.

2. Katie Brownlee. Katie was still living in Carluke in 1991. Farmed at Cairney Head.

James Brownlee and Catherine Walker also had:

3. Betty Brownlee born 1 November 1835 at Shotts[4].
